IALD
Mônica Luz Lobo, IALD, CLD
IALD President
Mônica Luz Lobo is both an accomplished architect and lighting designer. She graduated as an architect and urban planner from Santa Úrsula University, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Since 1997, she founded LD Studio where she is currently the creative director and working in architectural lighting. Her work features in many local and international publications, and she has won a number of awards at home and abroad.
Being committed to the development and dissemination of the profession of lighting design, she co-founded AsBAI (Brazilian association of architectural lighting designers), is member of the international committee of EILD (Encuentro Ibero Americano of Lighting Designers), and is a professional member of the International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD). At IALD, she has served on the board of directors as director at large since 2017, and has her CLD certification. She also frequently attends and lectures at major Brazilian and international conferences, fairs and workshops.
Brandon Thrasher
IALD Treasurer
Brandon Thrasher took on the role of IALD Treasurer in June 2022. He is the managing Principal of HLB Lighting Design’s San Francisco office and enjoys collaborating with clients to creatively tell a story while infusing their projects with light. Brandon’s passion for lighting design began within the fine arts where he earned an M.F.A. in theatrical lighting design and soon discovered his enjoyment of using light to permanently enhance the experience of the built environment through architectural lighting.
With over 15-years of experience, his career has taken him across the United States where he has worked for lighting design firms in Boston, New York City, and now San Francisco, which he is proud to call home. He has been honored with numerous awards for his contributions to lighting design, including an IES Illumination Award of Excellence, and in 2018 Brandon was named as a national and international recipient of Lighting Illumination in Architecture Magazine’s 40 under 40 award.
Andrea Hartranft, FIALD
IALD President-Elect
Andrea Hartranft, FIALD, Principal of Hartranft Lighting Design, believes everyone should have access to and benefit from quality light in their environments. She applies expertise gained since 1986 to design for commercial, municipal, institutional and residential markets. Her projects include high-end public places, energy-efficient workplaces, and cost-driven renovations, receiving international lighting design awards from the International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD) and the Illuminating Engineering Society (IES), as well as AIA awards at the regional and national level.
She is the IALD President-Elect and is a past President of the IALD Education Trust. Andrea presented at Enlighten Americas/Europe and Asia and was a workshop head for Lights in Alingsas 2015 and Luci In Riviera 2017. Andrea has a passion for lighting education, teaching about the art and science of light for K-12 students, collegians and working professionals.
Christopher Knowlton, IALD
IALD CEO
Christopher Knowlton is an award-winning lighting designer and co-founder of London based independent lighting design studio, 18 Degrees. His passion for lighting and the belief that lighting can really enhance people’s lives has driven his lighting career from a very early age and propelled it to where it is today. His fascination with light started in theatre and is now practiced daily within the built environment where he manipulates light to augment environments inside and out. His work spans theatre, events, fine art and architecture. A passionate advocate for lighting in all forms, and with a creative flair that enthuses his audiences, Christopher regularly speaks at events throughout the world sharing his knowledge and expertise with professionals and students alike.
Christopher also plays an active role in the International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD) where he currently sits on the IALD Board of Directors as CEO. He has previously held the position of treasurer (2021/2022), participated as director at large (2019/2020) as well as IALD regional coordinator for the UK (2012/2020). Fully entwined into the lighting community, he has volunteered as a member of the IALD Enlighten Europe and Americas Content Advisory Committees (2015), and as committee chair for IALD Enlighten Europe in Barcelona, Spain (2016). He is also a judge for the Knight of Illumination Awards, which recognizes the work of lighting designers in the events sector.
IES
Billy Tubb, IES, IALD
IES President
Billy is currently the Vice President/President Elect of the Illuminating Engineering Society. Prior to that, he served as the South Regional Director on the IES Board of Directors, the Chair and Vice Chair of IES District 4, and he was the President of the Illuminating Engineering Society New Mexico chapter. He has presented for various IES and DOE events and received the IES Section Service Award.
Billy has been an award-winning Theatre Consultant, Architectural and Theatrical Lighting Consultant, Audio Consultant, Acoustics Consultant, and a Rigging, Lighting Control Systems, and Special Systems Designer for over 36 years. He was also the Technical Production Director for the University of New Mexico, managing over 6500+ live events such as Lion King, Phantom of the Opera, Wicked, Pavarotti, Elton John, National Democratic Presidential Debate, Metallica, and the Rolling Stones. Billy currently works for RKL Sales Corporation in Albuquerque, NM as well.
Billy has a BFA in Technical Theatre and Design from the University of New Mexico, and enjoys music, cooking, the outdoors, and traveling with his two sons, Zach and Sam.
Wilson Dau, IES, LC, LEED AP
IES Vice President
Wilson Dau, IES, LC, LEED AP is an active member of the Illuminating Engineering Society, serving as a member and past Chair of the Office Lighting Committee and the Computer Committee; currently serving his third term as a member of the Board of Directors of the IES.
Wilson is the Vancouver Island Branch Manager for Symmetry Lighting. He holds a Degree in Industrial Design from Pontificia Universidad Javeriana. Prior to joining Symmetry, as a principal at DDCI Mr. Dau was responsible for the lighting design for North America’s first Double-Gold LEED building; he has led or been a member of the design team for many other high profile projects around the world.
Over his 30+ year career, he has been granted more than 50 US and International patents for SSL related inventions. Wilson is Lighting Certified by the NCQLP (National Council on Qualifications for the Lighting Professions) and a LEED Accredited professional by the USGBC.
Frank Agraz, Jr., LC, IES
IES Past President
Frank Agraz has worked in the energy efficient lighting community for 27 years and is currently Senior Director of Strategic Initiatives at Eco Engineering. He is responsible for improving the customer experience and raising awareness of Eco Engineering as a leading design-build lighting retrofit provider. Prior to his current role, he founded Maneri-Agraz Enterprises, a national turnkey energy services company. Frank joined the IES in 2000 and has served in several capacities: District 4 Chair, Past President of the Houston section, and Industrial committee member. Mr. Agraz is Lighting Certified by the NCQLP and is currently its Exam Committee Chair, the group that develops and maintains the content of the annual exam. He graduated from Texas A&M University with a BS in Industrial Distribution.
Colleen Harper
IES Executive Director
Colleen Harper is the Executive Director of the Illuminating Engineering Society (IES). She joined the organization in March 2022 after serving as Executive Director of the Audio Engineering Society (AES). Prior to her tenure at AES, Colleen served as the Chief Operating Officer and Interim Chief Executive Officer for the American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (ASPEN). Her extensive experience also includes serving the National Investor Relations Institute as Director of Professional Development; as Association Manager for the global meeting and association management firm Meeting Expectations; as Assistant Manager of Membership for the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers; and as the Director of Membership and Organizational Relations for the Geoprofessional Business Association.
Colleen has a BA in English from the College of William and Mary and a Master of Public Administration, Nonprofit Management degree from Georgia State University’s Andrew Young School of Policy Studies. She has been a Certified Association Executive (CAE) since 2012 and was an Association Forum of Chicagoland’s Forty Under 40 Award recipient in 2014. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for the New York Society of Association Executives.
Brienne Willcock, LC
IES Director of Education & Standards
Brienne leads the strategy for content development in technical standards and in education for IES. Her experience as an architectural lighting designer contributes to her ability to manage programs, seek input from stakeholders, and curate content for the benefit of IES and IALD members as well as LightFair's non-member participants. She was one of Lighting Magazine’s International 40 under 40 in 2017, and past president of the Detroit IES section (2013-2015). She served as IES Annual Conference Committee Chair in 2016 and 2017.
